Charles W. Segal is a partner in the firm’s Construction Law Practice Group, where he is responsible for construction law related matters, including contract negotiations, liens, surety bonds, claims, arbitrations, litigation and appeals. Mr. Segal, who works closely with the firm’s Real Estate and Litigation Practice Groups, represents a broad range of owners, developers, architects, engineers, construction consultants, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors and material suppliers. Mr. Segal began his legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of New York, in the Special Legal Assignments Division and later the Water Tunnel Litigation Group in the Commercial Litigation Division. After leaving the Corporation Counsel, Mr. Segal joined the New York State Commission of Investigation as an Assistant Counsel and was later appointed Executive Counsel (Deputy Chief Counsel). At the Commission of Investigation he was responsible for all litigation, as well as major investigations and administrative matters, including litigation and investigations relating to the construction industry in New York State. Thereafter, and until joining Jaspan Schlesinger , Mr. Segal was in private practice in Manhattan and later on Long Island with a law firm whose principal practice concentration was in commercial law and construction related matters. Mr. Segal received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1974, after graduating
College and Law School in five and one-half years. Upon graduation he
was admitted to practice law in New York State. He is also a member of
the Bar of the United States District Court for both the Southern and
Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for
the Second Circuit. Mr. Segal lectures frequently on mechanic's liens
and construction law. He is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association
and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and has been or
is a member of the Construction Law Committees of both of those Associations.
