Jon N. Santemma is a partner in the firm’s Tax
Certiorari and Condemnation Law Practice Group. Mr. Santemma brings
over 35 years of tax certiorari and condemnation law experience to
the firm. Mr. Santemma was designated as the law secretary to the
Administrative Judge assigned to the condemnation and tax certiorari
part of the Supreme Court, Nassau County, and for five years assisted
the Court in deciding sophisticated valuation questions involving
hundreds of parcels of property in both condemnation and real estate
tax proceedings. In 1971, Mr. Santemma started his own practice and
became special counsel to many attorneys, law firms, and private
clients throughout the state in both condemnation and tax certiorari
proceedings. Throughout his career, he has represented owners and
tenants of all types of real property, including golf clubs, farms,
vineyards, shopping centers, telephone companies, theatres, office
buildings, restaurants, hotels, industrial properties, schools, charitable
foundations, as well as residential and multi residence structures
in New York State and the City of New York.
Mr. Santemma served as president of the Nassau County Bar Association,
as a member of The House of Delegates, vice president of the New York
State Bar Association, and as trustee to the Village of Laurel Hollow.
Mr. Santemma presently serves as co-chair of the Condemnation and Tax
Certiorari Committee of the New York State Bar Association and has served
as a chairman or member of the Condemnation and Tax Certiorari Committees
of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, New York County
Lawyers, and the American, Nassau and Suffolk County Bar Associations.
He has received numerous recognitions for his professional, community,
and charitable endeavors. Mr. Santemma frequently lectures to various
educational and professional organizations on condemnation and tax certiorari
issues. He has also appeared on both radio and television, and has been
quoted in Newsday, The New York Times, the New York Law Journal
and a variety of other publications. Mr. Santemma is the co-editor and
co-author of the 2000 Supplement to the Review and Reduction of Real
Property Assessments in New York, and is currently the editor and
co-author of a book to be entitled Condemnation Law in New York.
