At the conclusion of an eight day trial, Litigation Department Chair Stanley A. Camhi achieved a defense verdict for the Village of Sea Cliff in a federal discrimination suit brought in the Eastern District of New York, EDNY in Ehrlich v. Village of Sea Cliff. Village officials were accused of discriminating
against the owner of a proposed restaurant because of his religion. The
Plaintiff wanted to open a restaurant in what is essentially a residential
area of Sea Cliff and complained that he was required to do a Draft Environmental
Impact Statement which he alleged was not required of other similar applicants.
The Judge dismissed all claims against fifteen of the defendants at the
end of the Plaintiff’s case finding that there was no evidence of
discrimination. The jury brought back a verdict in favor of the two remaining
defendants…a total defense victory! |
