Harold D. Berger is Of Counsel in the firm's Environmental Practice
Group. Prior to joining Jaspan Schlesinger LLP, Mr. Berger was
the Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation for Region 1 (Long Island). In 1991 he left that position
and has since been active on the Governor's task force on Land Preservation
for Long Island, the Hazardous Waste Advisory Committee to New York State
DEC, the STOP (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) executive committee, the
environmental committee of the American Chemical Society and on many other
committees and projects. During his tenure as Regional Director of the
NYS DEC he formed the first Citizens Advisory Committee for Hazardous
Waste, the first Citizens Advisory Committee for Land Preservation, originated
and implemented the Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) program and organized
and chaired the Environmental Economic Roundtable of Long Island. Each
of these committees remains active today. Mr. Berger also initiated the
idea of having an Environmental Camp for teenagers on Long Island and
was instrumental in obtaining funds for this camp by using environmental
penalties against municipalities for this purpose. The camp is now flourishing
in the middle of Long Island. Mr. Berger is admitted to practice in the State Courts of New York, the
United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of
New York, and the United States Patent Bar.
